Bong Joon Ho’s Interpretor Sharon Choi Talks About her Sudden Fame

In an interview with Variety, Bong Joon Ho‘s interpreter, Sharon Choi, who recently gained recognition from viewers as the “hidden VIP of the Oscars”, spoke about her fame as well as the many challenges that it brought with her job.

Sharon has recently received a lot of attention and gained sudden stardom for her incredible interpretation work following the worldwide success of Bong Joon Ho’s film ‘Parasite‘. She stated that seeing her face on social media platforms have been “so bizarre”, and that there had even been hashtags of her name for Viagra ads, as well as an offer for a beauty commercial. She also said that she felt some difficulties while working as Bong Joon Ho’s interpreter, because she “had to fight against the anxiety that I might misdeliver the words conveyed by a man who’s so loved by the public”.

Though many of us may know her just as “the avatar of language” (as referred to by Bong Joon Ho himsef), she is an aspiring director as well and has majored in film and media studies at an American university.

It seems as though Sharon has a bright career coming for her, so we can’t wait to see what she’ll be able to bring to us next! Particularly in the path of a director!
