For the first time in his career, the actor decided to pursue a role in a horror film called Closet. The film is about a child who goes missing without a trace in her new home as her father tries his best to find her as he struggles to get her back.

In a January 29th press conference, Ha Jung Woo expressed his satisfaction of the movie and shared his thoughts as both an actor and a producer of the film. He stated that when he first saw the film in person, he was amazed how great the CG graphics were and also said that the music director did an excellent job of selecting what kind of music would work the best with the film’s eerie vibe. He then explained how Closet is the fourth movie that he produced, and how different of a process it was to be both an actor and a producer of a film whereas being just one or the other.

Because he isn’t able to watch horror films, the actor also mentioned how the new film had been a very different choice for him. He said that the last horror film he had ever seen was The Grudge (2003). However, he said the planning process and the low-budget aspect of the film sparked his interest, since there weren’t too many films like that around in Korea.

The film (according Ha Jung Woo, the actors, and the director) was made through immense cooperation among themselves, through consistent communication throughout the four-month production and meetings on ideas for bettering the film.

When asked what his plans are for the future, Ha Jung Woo stated that he will continue doing what he’s doing and that he will be in Italy and Morocco in March for a filming of the movie Pilab and in the Dominican Republic in the Fall to film a drama series Suriname.

Be sure to catch The Closet in local theaters this month!
