‘An Honest Candidate’ Topped Box Office From The First Day Of Its Release

An Honest Candidate  topped the overall box office, beating out its rivals.

According to the counting of Korean Film Commission on Feb. 13, An Honest Candidate, released the day before (Feb. 12) attracted 109,520 people on its first day to rank the top in the daily box office. The cumulative number of film-goers that day was 124,785 in total.

An Honest Candidate is a comedy that takes place as Joo Sang Sook (Ra Mi Ran), a third-term congressman and a habitual liar, suddenly loses her ability to lie entirely.

Earlier, An Honest Candidate had considered delaying the release date due to the aftermath of the new coronavirus, but ended up sticking to the schedule. Thanks to word of mouth of audience and favorable reviews from the media, the movie turned the spotlight on the box office, quickly rising the ranks, topping the booking rate.

An Honest Candidate easily surpassed the attendance of 96,642 for The Closet and 56,656 of Birds Of Prey, which were both released a week earlier.

It was followed by Little Women, which opened the same day, drawing 71,064 people to rank second. The cumulative attendance is 85,921.

The Closet, which had been at the top of the box office until the previous day, came in third. The “Closet” drew 54,449 people, with a cumulative attendance of 889,020.
